History-Social Science Frameworks

The College, Career, and Civic Life, or C3, Framework for Social Studies State Standards (or C3 Framework) is anchored on an Inquiry Arc in which students:
  1. develop questions and plan inquiries
  2. apply disciplinary tools and concepts
  3. evaluate sources and use evidence
  4. communicate conclusions and take informed action

California’s History-Social Science Framework makes it clear that students need to build their content knowledge through inquiry, via their own research. Students must be able to find and utilize relevant, verifiable information from multiple credible sources. Below are the major shifts that have changed Social Studies instruction to focus more on the interconnections between different regions (California History-Social Science Project, 2016).

While I conducted my action research, the "Extensive Revision" to 7th grade units drew more attention to the need for my students to have support in finding reliable resources throughout their own research.
