21st Century Learning and Workforce Readiness

Gerd Leonard Discusses the 21st century workplace and the characteristics needed to pilot this unknown territory, but how are we supporting this in education? Standards have been updated to meet this critical demand, but many educators still have a stagnant perception of a functioning citizen. We need to educate our educators on how quickly technological advancements are shaping the world and changing our understanding. Leonard states that "three quarters of the jobs [our students] are going to have aren't even invented today." How can we adequately prepare them for a future we cannot even conceive? Teaching them higher-level concepts- how to be independent, creative, critical thinkers is the key.

“Executive function means taking things from one file…and combining it with another mental file and putting them together for new applications, solve new problems, for innovation."
