Using technology to engage students...
My love of technology and my love of teaching science brought me to this point. I wanted to find a way to use technology in an effective way to engage my students. After my first year of teaching middle school, I realized that students do not enjoy science the way I did when I was in middle school. My students didn't want to learn about biology, chemistry, or physics. They didn't care about earth science or natural science. My students were too distracted by their cell phones, the latest video game, or the latest app on their iPad.
Many teachers I talked to said they had the same problem. They were frustrated and felt that it was nearly impossible to engage their students like they once could. This lead me to the decision to focus my action research project for my masters on using technology to engage and excite my students especially in science.
Through this process I learned so much more than just the answer to my driving question. I learned to understand my students, I learned about the areas I need to grow in, and I learned about the incredible way technology can be used to reignite that excitement for learning in our students.
