How-t0 get started.........

At the beginning of the school years, I spend a good deal of time building a strong classroom community.  
I incorporate many team building activities and cooperative activities.  
We have community meetings regularly as well.
Stucture is established and well defined for learners.
At the fifth grade level I use table groups of eight students.  

Within these larger groups I often incorporate partner and small group work.
Centers are stationary, but learning groups are mobile. 
Goals for each center are clearly stated at the outset of the day.
Routines need to be established and expectations clearly understood.
Flexibility is important as one day does not always flow easily into the next.
