Lessons

On this page there is a one week unit plan. This reflects just the introductory week. You will need to go back and reinforce the use of these resources often.

Day 1&2: Growth mindset training

A super helpful video to set the groundwork of understanding that mistakes are how we learn and its ok to make mistakes!
Mindfulness is great any time of the day. This video talks about the "I can't" monster and how it tries to stop us from doing things. It teaches us to keep trying after things get hard or we get frustrated.

This is a great wrap up for your growth mindset training. It can be posted on the walls and referred back to whenever needed.

Day 3 &4: Introduction to peer feedback

You will need to make an account with Edpuzzle, which is very easy. Then, search for the Critique and Feedback on Austin's Butterfly. What is great about Edpuzzle is that as the students watch the video and it will stop and ask them questions to check for understanding. If they aren't understanding...just go back and re-watch the segment! After this lesson give them the opportunity to do something very similar to what they just saw in Austin's butterfly. They need to try applying what they just learned.

This comment menu is available on Teachers Pay Teachers for $5. I would recommend printing one per student on cardstock to keep in their desk as a reference guide. Students should be taught how to use this resource often so it becomes a tool that they can use independently.
