PBL Multimedia examples
Here you will find various examples of multimedia use in PBL lessons along with descriptions of how they were used in class. Though it is not necessary to use technology to properly run PBL, it is the other tool used in teaching that my students have repeatedly asked for more of. It helps with engagement and gives students another opportunity to learn a 21st century skill. These aren't tools designed for PBL but are just strategies that are incorporated into PBL.

Description of how it was usedThis is an example of how screencast-o-matic and Google Forms can be used to make a quick lesson. This particular lesson was used in my geography class and it was centered around using Google as a search engine for research during a project on the Great Lakes. I uploaded it to the class Edmodo page and most students did it on their phones right after class.

The first link is a Google Drawing of my grading philosophy for PBL. I use rubrics on the final projects, which are usually group grades. The individual points I give are based simply on daily effort and the idea is that someone would not be able to get a passing grade on a project by letting others in the group do all the work. They must also do the individual work to pass. The second link is just a graphic organizer I made for my government class to show the hierarchy of the court system in the U.S.

Wordsift takes an entire text and breaks it down into how often a word is used in that text, similar to Wordle. The difference is that with Wordsift you can move certain words into another box and isolate them. This is a Wordsift combined on a Google Form and embedded to my classes Edmodo page as a homework assignment on DDT and the Great Lakes.

Many eyes is a way to organize data in many forms. This is a visual representation of a poll I took of my students where I asked how likely it was that they would bring their own laptop/tablet when the school went to a bring-your-own-device program.
