Plan out the calendar- Google Calendar/iCal

Usually after a few projects I have no problem working out a calendar of events, but this project is different.  I’ve mapped everything out on my iCal, which syncs to my phone so I can make any changes even if I’m not near my computer and I have the feeling I’ll have to make some adjustments on this.  I’m not too comfortable with the content and how long each daily assignment will actually take, but that will be worked out in the next step.

Because I knew the entry and due date for this project, I started there.  I knew we would have 12 days from the entry event to the presentation day with a day after (day 13) saved for a reflection assignment.  This is because day 13 is our finals day and day 12 is our last day of instruction.  Once I put those dates in, I worked backwards where the day before it is to be presented (day 11), we are having a dress rehearsal.  Normally I don’t do this, but this project is unique in that the class as a whole is presenting and we need time to get each group on the same page.

Day 10 is a day where students combine the efforts of the groups into one common idea and assign tasks for the final presentation.  Day 8 and 9 are presentation days for individual groups as well as critical friends day.  Up to this point, each group has been working on their own and this is where they pitch their ideas to be included in the final class product.  During each presentation, observing students will write notes to their classmates telling them what they liked about their presentation, and what they wonder about it (where they need improvements).  Day 6 and 7 are designated as computer lab days where each group will make their own Prezi that conveys their ideas to the class.

At this point, days 1 and 6-13 are filled up, which gives me 4 days left to fill in 5 items on the principals list.  The entire second day is devoted to creating norms for proper tech use in the classroom and getting a feel for the creating process while day 3 is devoted to guidelines for preventing theft and damage.  On day 4, I decided to double up appropriate/inappropriate types of technology and how students without tech can participate because I felt there are only a few types of technology that students have access to that can be used in a school setting.  Lastly, day 5 is devoted to creative ways students and teachers can use the technology in school.

In the correct order, here is what my project looks like:

Day 1- Intro event, need-to-know, driving question, groups, due dates, ways to present

Day 2- Creating norms for tech use in class

Day 3- Creating guidelines for preventing theft and damage

Day 4- Types of tech/students without tech

Day 5- Creative ways to use tech in school

Day 6- Computer lab day 1- making the Prezi

Day 7- Computer lab day 2- finishing the Prezi

Day 8- First presentation day for individual groups/peer review

Day 9- Second presentation day for individual groups/peer review

Day 10- Combine into one and assign tasks for final project

Day 11- Dress rehearsal and final touches

Day 12- Present to the principal

Day 13- Reflection assignment
