Common Core State Standards & California ELD Standards
The California Common Core State Standards are the standards that guide all California school curriculum. At the end of the year students are tested on five domains: Number Systems (NS), Expressions and Equations (EE), Functions (F), Geometry (G), and Statistics and Probability (SP). Within my action research, I addressed two domains. In the first round of research, I addressed Expressions and Equations and Functions . In the second round of research, I addressed Number Systems since the study took place in the fall at the beginning of the school year. Demonstrating competency in these domains is crucial to doing well on the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) at the end of the year. Moreover, students also have to be able to demonstrate competency in the 8 mathematical practices found in the Common Core State Standards. See tips on how to help your students meet Common Core State Standards for mathematics in the infographic on the right.
In my action research, I also addressed several standards in the ELA content area and ELD standards, mainly touching on writing, listening, and speaking.
