IB Rubrics to Assess 21st Century Skills

Harvest Middle School became an International Baccalaureate school this year, so all our rubrics are designed based on the skills and criterion we need to teach and assess. IB believes in embodying 21st century skills through the 4 C's (Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication), inquiry and real world learning and application. When creating an IB unit with criterion based rubrics, teachers need to think big picture so that students have multiple chances to be formatively assessed before their summative assessment. In turn I realized that if technology was seamlessly integrated into my IB curriculum then students would be using it to further their knowledge and learn new tools. In each IB subject their are 4 criterion, each with specific strands and skills to teach. When creating units you choose which strands you would like to teach and then create learning experiences so that students have chances to practice and be assessed on that skill. Below you can find a generic Language and Literature Rubric that has all 4 criterion and all strands.
