When we put school wide agreements in place, we saw that students were better able to recognize their own voice and that they could make decisions for themselves as a learner. But the work is not over.  Our plan is to continue to build the strategies we put in place to promote agency into our unit and lesson planning.  We need to look at all areas of our practice and be intentional about giving students opportunities to lead the inquiry, share their thinking, and represent their learning in a way that works for them. Then, I can share the results of our work with other principals and teachers in our district and beyond. I’m sure our fellow IB partners will be interested in our results with developing student agency and what we can do to enhance it further.  Our plan is to start our next school year with a focus on inquiry and what students can share with us about what they’ve learned over the past year.  We know from experience and from brain research that as humans we are always learning.  Rather than focusing on so-called “learning loss” we want to listen to what students have to say about who and how they are coming back from this unprecedented time.

I wish to thank my wonderful cohort partners for their friendship, wisdom, support and encouragement through all the ups and downs of our journey.  We had amazing support and direction from the Innovative Learning Program instructors and Dr. Redmond.  Thank you!!

I also want to thank Napa Learns for their support in making this project and my professional growth possible.
