Kids need teachers... to help them learn to make sense of the world for themselves.Student inquiry, which requires research, is integral to academic and everyday life in the 21st century. But students can't just "do research," even though they may look and act like they can. Even though it's tempting to "Google" something, many students get frustrated and distracted as they look through the abundance of information on the internet. Students need to effectively and efficiently find reliable sources, enabling them to spend their time and energy focusing on other important parts of the research process, such as developing their own questions and analyzing evidence. Understanding the research process, particularly what students experience while gathering sources, can help teachers effectively plan instruction and support students through their own inquiries. Fortunately, there are digital tools that, along with compelling pedagogy, can help both teachers and students in navigating student inquiry in today's learning environments.
