Being that the flipped classroom model is a pedagogical approach I will explain how I engaged my students in the before, during and after phases of in class instruction.

Before:
​Students engage with content at home

Students access the teacher created content at home and prepare for class by watching or engaging. Some content requires students to answer questions but the main goal is for students to see concepts before class time.

During:
​Students take guided notes in class

Note taking is still an important skill for students to participate in and I found that even with a flipped classroom model, my students benefited from taking notes. I use a system of guided notes to maximize engagement during this time of direct instruction.

After:
​Students apply learned concepts to solve problems 

After clearing up any remaining questions during note taking, students engage in critical thinking activities or problem sets. One could assign the homework that traditionally would have been assigned at home or do more enriching activities. Teachers will find they have more time to work with individual students and address various needs.
