Lessons
Lessons provided on this page are examples of how to thoughtfully use 21st century technology tools for retelling. These lessons focus on using Google slides and Flipgrid as retelling tools for content studied. Each lesson has the New California ELD Standards embedded. In addition, each lesson addresses the 4Cs for student achievement (collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity). Lessons originated from my district Pacing Guide. This guide was specifically developed for English language learners in an ELD (English language development) setting.

Prior to redesigning my lessons for digital retelling, using Google slides and Flipgrid, it was important to determine my students' experience with each digital tool and accessibility to Google drive.  Students' prior knowledge and access would determine what tutorials or tools would need to be provided. Following my initial research using Google slides for upper grades, I discovered the tool Flipgrid, and determined that it was an appropriate retell tool for primary students. Therefore, I have included lesson samples for each digital tool in order to provide options for all elementary grades levels.
Above are two examples of digital video retells using Google slides. The first video represents a 5th grade retell and the second representes a 1st grade retell.
Below is an example of Flipgrid retell.  Students are not in this retell due to privacy standards.
