How Does an Academic Coach Support Middle School Math Teachers to Best Support English Language Learners?

Right now there is a 32.54% achievement gap in middle school math scores for English Language Learners (ELLs) when compared to their English Only (EO) and Redesignated peers. What influences can a part time academic coach have on the day to day practices of math teachers?  How can the school as a system provide extra math support to the English Language Learner population within the current school day at no added cost?

Time to Teach Math in Math Class and ELD Classes!

It is time that educators and schools look beyond the math classroom to support the English Language Learners in math. In addition, teachers need to know how to collect and carefully dissect student data to be able to provide direct and appropriate support to students in class.  Teachers need to work together as a unit to share resources and to share strategies so all students can benefit from their collaborative work.
