Reaching Advanced LearnersThe education pendulum has swung away from high-achieving (GATE) students. Frequently, students who are ready to grow and learn beyond the grade-level standards are not given advanced opportunities, leaving them bored and stymied, and many may never blossom to their full potential (Chen, 2014). Educators must provide the appropriate level of education to high-achieving students yet millions of K-12 students are capable of more challenging coursework than they are currently assigned (Levy, 2017).
This website will provide educators with a wide-variety of resources. These resources may be geared towards advanced learners but they can and should be implemented within heterogeneous classrooms. Data shows that the Advanced Learners InVigorate Education! (ALIVE!) strategies promote student growth across the board no matter their current educational levels. Research findings show that there may be a correlation between the implementation of ALIVE! strategies and the increase of Reading Inventory (Lexile) scores. Score increases were greater with "at grade level" or "below grade level" students than with students "above grade level". GATE students, their parents and classmates believe that the academic levels were more appropriate/challenging than in school years past which may be due to the implementation of ALIVE! strategies. |
