How Can We Use Technology to Engage High School Math Students?

Why Is This Important?

The problem is that high school students, as a whole, are underachieving in math.  In addition, there is a need to increase students’ higher level thinking skills and proficiencies with technology use for problem solving.  This is both on the state level in California, compared with the rest of the nation, and on the national level, comparing the United States with other industrialized nations.  Measures need to be taken to engage high school math students in the classroom, with the goal of improving achievement.  While technology use in high school math classrooms has been on the rise for the last decade, there are still many high school students that aren’t aware of the effectiveness of these technologies, or proficient in using them.
