There are many sources of standards that have guided my teaching and learning throughout the process of my research.  This page focuses primarily on the California Common Core State Math Standards associated with teaching Math 1.  Below is a list of the 8 standards of Mathematical Practice, one of those eight principles is the use of appropriate math tools strategically, which along with many traditional math tools, includes technology such as computers, chrome books, cell phones and tablets.  This Common Core mathematical principle expresses that mathematically proficient students should be able to know the tools available to them when solving a mathematical problem and know that technology can enable them to visualize the results of varying assumptions, explore consequences, and compare predictions with data. (www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc//)  This Common Core initiative encourages the use of mathematical technology tools in the classroom.

You can find more about Common Core Standards and 21st Century Workforce Readiness by clicking on either of those links.

The Eight Standards for Mathematical Practice are:
  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  4. Model with mathematics
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically
  6. Attend to precision
  7. Look for and make use of structure
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
