Getting Started with Peer Teaching

Peer teaching is something you have to set up beforehand, and then incorporate into your content area.

If you'd like to try out peer teaching in your educational context here is the 10 step outline:
  1. Assess: content material and student self-reflections on collaboration
  2. Set up peer learners and peer teachers based on content assessment data
  3. Create a daily rotation between teachers and learners
  4. Teach collaboration sentence frames
  5. Teach examples and non-examples of successful collaboration
  6. Teach content mini-lesson with ready made independent exercise
  7. Learner moves through exercise first while peer teacher guides
  8. Roles Reverse: Peer teacher moves through exercise steps while peer learner guides
  9. Assess: subject material and student self-reflections on collaboration (every 1-2 weeks)
  10. Peer teachers work together every three weeks or one day a week while peer learners get extra targeted intervention from the classroom teacher

Seesaw Spanish Math Reps:

Math reps or repetitions are a powerful way to increase students' confidence in math and growth in number sense. By implementing a short math activity each day that has a repeating structure but changed numbers, students quickly become familiar with what to do and can focus their energies on applying patterns to new number scenarios. You might try developing a weekly pattern where each day of the week, students work a different math repetition. Soon students will be able to tackle it on their own without needing explanation from the teacher while the teacher can simply focus more time on having a number conversation after the class finishes the exercise.
