TPACK: Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

TPACK represents the integration of three major components of successful teaching:
  • Technological Knowledge
    • Effective use of online programs or assistive technology to increase learning
  • Pedagogical Knowledge
    • Teaching practices that lead to a positive classroom dynamic, clarity, and engagement among learners
  • Content Knowledge
    • Subject and grade specific knowledge about procedures and concepts that is to be passed to students

Simply making sure computers are present in every classroom and that students are logging on daily doesn't mean that technology is being effectively used to enhance instruction. Likewise, a teacher may have a multitude of fun, engaging games but if lacking the actual content knowledge that is to be learned during those engaging moments, learning is lost. While the interplay of these three components looks different at each grade level, keeping their balanced integration at the forefront of the teaching practice is what leads to success in learning for students of all ages.
