The Students

The students were recruited because they are students the researcher has known for two previous school years so she was familiar with their work habits and learning styles. The educator has had the students for 1-2 years previously and has background information on their participation level from previous years. The middle school where the study took place is a Title I school, and 100% of students were on the Free and Reduced Meal Program in the 2019-2020 school year. Fourteen of fifteen eighth grade students were native Spanish speakers, while only 1 of the students was a native English speaker. All students had mild to moderate learning disabilities.

My Logo

Picture
My Logo was inspired by my research.  The whole reason that I began this project was to see if I could spark engagement in my students, that would then translate to agency and then would yield growth. I chose the background color because my students are often overlooked by many districts. I chose the hands because they remind me of agency, and the multiple colors reminds me of how each student is different and has differing needs. The circle represents community.  Special education teachers, students and classes are few in number and have a special bond amongst them.
