How to Assess Students

Picture
There are two types of assessments which take place in the classroom:
1) Formative Assessment is an ongoing assessment which allows teachers to assess the student’s knowledge of the content during the teaching phase.
2) Summative Assessment takes place at the end of a unit of work and a comparison is usually made against a benchmark or standard.

Blended Learning requires ongoing formative assessment, and is allows the teacher to not only identify an area a student is struggling in, but it allows the teacher to target that area of difficult immediately.  This allows for immediate differentiation and therefore the immediate clarification of a specific curriculum area.
Khan Academy gives teachers the opportunity to monitor the learning of the students.  Through the classroom setup the teacher is able to see the progress of the students and then cater to those weaker areas within the classroom.

Demonstration of how Khan Academy can be used in a flipped classroom setting, and how formative assessment is ongoing.
