My research project was motivated by the English Language Learners I work with. As their initial point of contact and witness to their first day, I was inspired to research this subject. Many of these students possess only basic English skills, limited to saying "Hi," and struggle with comprehending other English words. Collaborating with these students, I have observed their feelings of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm as they adapt to a new culture while grappling with the added pressure of meeting graduation requirements in academic classes. They have expressed their confusion regarding the content they are expected to learn, and despite their best efforts, they know that it is insufficient. This led me to explore the possibility of utilizing translation technology in their classes, enabling them to acquire the necessary knowledge and actively participate in class. These students exhibit a strong desire to learn, but the language barrier acts as an obstacle. By providing them with additional support, they can gain more independence and experience success in their academic pursuits.
